Josiah Firth built the tower on this site in 1882. The tower is 16 metres high and is one of the earliest reinforced concrete buildings in New Zealand. The tower was refurbished as the centrepiece of the museum in 1978. The lookout was rebuilt in 1990 by Stanley Construction.

 Please note:

 Firth Tower Museum will is open during it's normal hours with the following guidelines in place:

  • If you are sick, stay home.

  • It is mandatory to scan in via the QR code for contact tracing or provide your contact details to staff.

  • Abide by safe physical distancing.  Keep 2m away from other people at all times.

  • Group bookings must be pre approved by Firth Tower management before they are granted entry.

  • Self-contained motorhomes are welcome.   Please abide by level 2 guidelines.

  • All children under 16 yrs must have one caregiver supervising them

  • Volunteers and user groups must gain pre approval from Firth Tower management before they are granted entry.

  • Be mindful, kind and patient with our sta­ff and others.
