Potager Garden
On Wednesday mornings from 9:30 till 12:00 weather permitting, Transition Matamata gardeners meet for a natter over gardening matters (and to do some gardening too ?) in the Potager Garden at the Firth Tower. Ably led by the chief gardener Colin Kemplen, the gardeners enjoy good company and a cup of tea with the Historical Society while weeding, cultivating, and generally caring for this highly acclaimed vegetable and herb garden at the Firth Tower. New gardeners are always welcome and if you can’t make the Wednesday mornings then we can still accommodate you. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. Composting Workshops
The Potager Garden at the Firth Tower not only serves as a vegetable and herb garden but is also the venue for the council funded, series of Composting Workshops run by Transition Matamata. EnviroSchools coordinator and permaculture guru Ruairi Kelly delivers a workshop packed with information about the different types of affordable composting systems available on the market to process our food and other organic waste at home. This prevents it from going to landfill to become yet another source of greenhouse gases and instead creates a valuable source of fertiliser for your garden. Attendees are eligible for a 15% discount off home compost bins courtesy of the MPDC.
