Josiah Firth built the tower on this site in 1882. The tower is 16 metres high and is one of the earliest concrete buildings in the district. The tower was refurbished as the centrepiece of the museum in 1978. The lookout was rebuilt in 1990 by Stanley Construction.

Firth Tower will be closed on Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Sunday 22 June 2025

Public toilets will also be closed for all of July 2025, but there will be a portaloo on site.
